Spaced repetition: remembering for the long term.

What spaced repetition is, why it works, and how to use it on MAK-IA to retain what you learn for good.

Spaced repetition is a proven memorization method: instead of rereading everything at once, you review each concept right when you’re about to forget it. Every successful review strengthens the memory and pushes the next review further out.

Why it works

Our memory follows a “forgetting curve”: without reminders, newly learned information fades within days. By reviewing it at increasing intervals (1 day, then 3, then a week, then a month…), you anchor knowledge in long-term memory with minimal effort. It’s the same principle behind Anki, Quizlet, and Duolingo.

How it works on MAK-IA

  1. Finish a module — its flashcards (question/answer cards) unlock.
  2. Add them to your reviews — with the “Add to my reviews” button on the flashcards page.
  3. Review every day — the “Today’s review” page shows you the cards that are due. Read the question, think it through, flip the card, then rate yourself: Again, Hard, Good, or Easy.
  4. Let the algorithm do the scheduling — depending on your answer, the card comes back sooner (if it was hard) or much later (if it was easy).

A daily reminder appears in your notification bell whenever you have cards left to review.

Every learner has their own pace

Flashcards are shared by everyone, but your review schedule is personal: it adapts to what you already know and to what takes you more effort.

Turning it on or off

Spaced repetition is on by default. You can turn it off anytime from your dashboard, below your email language setting. When it’s off, you stop receiving reminders and the review page disappears — your flashcards remain available to browse as usual.
